Take the LEAP!  Join our Volunteer Team!

Learn, Engage and Activate Possibilities for people of all abilities to serve our community!  All of our volunteer opportunities welcome and encourage people with disabilities and people with typical development to apply and work together. We are looking for excited and motivated team members, who are 14 and over, who want to learn from each other, engage community needs, and actively look at what is possible for volunteer experiences!

LEAP onboard one of the following opportunities, and/or share a talent, skill, or idea you have for inclusive volunteerism. Many of our opportunities can meet the needs of the busy person who wants to serve in a single day as well as those who have more time to devote.

Able and Ready Unified Exchange Club – All Abilities Serve the Community Together!

We are looking for individuals with developmental disabilities and typically developing friends to step into leadership for a new Exchange Club in Springfield! Develop as a club officer with supportive Exchange mentors, join members of all abilities, and choose your own community service projects! Be a regular member of the Able and Ready Unified Exchange Club, or just join in for select projects, the choice is yours! Scholarships available for club dues.

Best Buddies Wittenberg Chapter

Starting Fall Semester 2023, Wittenberg College will have its first Best Buddies Chapter! Best Buddies is an international organization dedicated to promoting friendships, jobs, and leadership opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. If you are a young adult age 18 – 35 with a developmental disability, and you are looking for a college-aged new friend, this is a great opportunity. Note that matches to friends will be determined by the number of students who join the chapter.

Time Commitment – 9 month commitment, buddy activities and events approximately 2 – 3 hours per month.

Parents Relax and Connect

Just a kid at heart? Play with younger children in structured activities and games (supported by staff) while parents take a breather, connect with each other, and learn some new information!

Time Commitment – Flexible – help for one event for 2.5 hours, or love working with kiddos and come back for more!

Sensational Sensory Days

Spread happiness to individuals with disabilities in our residential home by joining in on structured sensory activities (supported by staff) including games and arts and crafts.

Time commitment – Flexible- help for one event for 1 hour, or keep the smiles going and come back for more.

Icebreaker Party!

Want to practice “breaking the ice” and making small talk with someone new? Join in the best volunteer job in the land where people of all abilities will grow their social skills with getting-to-know-you games, paired activities, refreshments, and prizes.

Time commitment – Flexible – join in the fun for one event for 2 hours, or keep coming back for more icebreaking good times!

High School/College Hours for Service or Internship

Do you have some community service hours to meet? Do you have time for a party, to play with kids, or join in a service project? We are full of fun ways you can be meaningfully involved and get to make new friends with individuals with disabilities!

If you are a college student in the field of social work, education, psychology, and communication (to name a few), talk to us about gaining valuable resume-building experience in the field of developmental disabilities!

Virtual Visitor

Volunteer from the comfort of your home as a virtual visitor! Let us know your interests and we can pair you up with an individual with a disability who wants a virtual friend. Tutoring is also needed!

Time Commitment – Flexible - meet twice a month for 1 hour, 6 month commitment

Possibility Activator!

Are you an artist who enjoys painting, a poet who loves Spoken Word, a musician looking for an audience, or a gamer who enjoys online competitions? Do you have a talent, gift or interest that you would like to share with others by teaching a class or forming a club? Let us know how we can help you serve!
